Tanzanite was discovered near Mererani in 1967 and, geologically, exists nowhere else in the world — a roughly 20km stretch of the Merelani Hills is the planet's sole known source. This tour visits the mining area and a licensed gem dealer, where you'll see rough stones, learn how tanzanite is graded, and understand why it's rarer than diamonds.
