Rongai Route, the quiet northern approach.

Approaching from the drier, quieter northern side near the Kenyan border, Rongai sees a fraction of the traffic of the southern routes — a good choice during the rainy season, when the north stays drier.

Overview

Rongai Route

Rongai is Kilimanjaro's only route approaching from the north, close to the Kenyan border, and it sees noticeably less traffic than any southern route. Its northern position also means it stays drier during the rainy season, when routes like Machame and Lemosho can turn muddy — a genuine practical advantage, not just a scenic preference.
