The classic "Coca-Cola Route" is the only main Kilimanjaro route using mountain huts. It follows the same route up and down and is one of the shortest options.

Your 5 days itinerary

Day 1Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Trek begins at Marangu Gate through rainforest to Mandara Hut.
Day 2Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
The trail opens into moorland as you continue to Horombo Hut.
Day 3Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Cross the alpine desert of the Saddle to reach Kibo Hut, the final camp before the summit.
Day 4Summit attempt via Gilman’s Point/Uhuru Peak, then descend to Horombo Hut
A pre-midnight start for the summit push via Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak, followed by a long descent to Horombo Hut.
Day 5Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate; transfer back to Moshi/Arusha
A final descent through forest to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate before transferring back to Moshi or Arusha.

What is the success rate on the 5-day Marangu route?
Marangu is the most direct route, but the shorter duration means less time to acclimatize. Trekkers wanting a stronger acclimatization profile often choose the 6-day version.
Do I need previous trekking experience?
No technical climbing skills are required, but a reasonable level of fitness and some hiking experience will make the trek more enjoyable.
